Estuaries of Snowdonia 15th - 16th April 2023 This course isn’t just for paddlers who are working towards leadership awards; but anyone who wants to develop the skills and knowledge to safely enjoy these amazing places. The exact trips will depend upon the weather, and the aspirations of the group. The Conwy, Mawddach and Dwyryd estuaries are all on the cards. The course starts with a meet up and group briefing before the first trip. Tandem canoes can be provided if required, or you are welcome to bring your own. At the end of the first day we will meet up for dinner (included) and an evening session round the fire to review the day and plan the next day’s trip. What is covered - Deep water canoe strokes, effective forward paddling technique. Paddling in the wind with confidence and efficiency. Sailing rafted canoes. Planning canoe journeys on tidal water. Understanding weather and tides. Understanding the geography and ecology of these unique environments. It might be possible to arrange some free indoor camping. Otherwise I can suggest bunk house or B&B accommodation locally. Level of experience necessary - As a minimum you will have canoed on open water either solo, or tandem in light winds. You will have canoed on moving, ‘green flow’ type water.
